How Can tonsillitis Along With Strep Throat Be Treated?

Hello, I ve had tonsil problems all my life, strep throat many times and I have holes in them because of that. I get tonsil stones and I see white food debris a the time but now I see some black and green tissue on the back side of my tonsil. Do I need to go to the emergency room?

Hi,

Tonsil stones or Tonsilloliths are formed due to calcification of food particles or debris over the tonsil crypts. It is a potent cause for infection and inflammation of tonsils and bad breath. A sore throat that is recurring is most probably due to Tonsil stones.

Black and green tissue or deposits over the tonsils can be due to fungal infection or due to food accumulants rotting over the deep crypts of tonsils.

I would suggest you remove the tonsil stones using a q-tip and in order to reduce its formation you should do warm saline gargles. Gargle with solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. Always gargle with water after meals. Limit the intake of dairy products.

In case if they are not being removed, you should consult an ENT Physician and get evaluated and they can remove it manually using fine tweezers.

In case if still the problem does not resolve then the last resort is to get the Tonsils removed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora,
